Republican and former state legislator Meagan Hanson has announced her intentions to unseat Georgia U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA-06).
Hanson announced her candidacy Monday on her Facebook page.
Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District consists of Atlanta’s northern suburbs, including portions of Cobb, Fulton, and DeKalb counties.
Hanson said in a press release that she wants to fight liberals’ plans to hike taxes, defund the police, open America’s borders, and fund politicians’ campaigns with taxpayer dollars.
“With the direction our country is going, the America I had growing up will not be the same America my kids will live in. I’m not content to watch this nation’s promise slip away,” Hanson said in the press release.
“We need a congresswoman who will fight for Georgia’s families, not Nancy Pelosi’s radical agenda. I’ll work every day to lower taxes, end out-of-control government spending, and get America back on track.”
Hanson said in her press release that she graduated from law school and spent much of her adult life on the front lines of the conservative movement.
According to Ballotpedia, Hanson represented District 80 in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. She served on the judiciary, special rules, and transportation committees. She lost the 2018 general election to State Rep. Matthew Wilson (D-Brookhaven). Wilson received 52 percent of the vote while Hanson received 47 percent.
Hanson lives in Sandy Springs with her husband David and two children, the press release said.
Jake Evans, the former chairman of the Georgia ethics commission, stepped down from his position last month to also challenge McBath.
The Sixth Congressional District has proven competitive over the past few election cycles. In 2017, Republican Karen Handel narrowly defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff. In 2018, McBath edged out a victory of Handel to flip the seat to Democratic control. McBath once again defeated Handel in 2020.

Dont do it unless GA has a forensic audit and gets rid of the machines first.
This is truly amazing. Where are all of the Republicans in this obvious fight for our country. If Trump won the election then a lot of these folks will have perpetrated felonies against the federal election laws. They should go to jail. What a mess in the name of getting President Trump out of office.
